On the contrary, an individual surrenders a bundle of his/her personal rights to the sovereign in return for a set of assurances and guarantees on liberty, safety and ways of exercising personal choice. A step further, the constitution does provide for curtailing certain rights which are guaranteed by it, if they are opposed to public order or policy and this is a discretion vested in the Government of the day.

In addition, free choice can never be a foundation stone for peaceful co-habitation, a cornerstone of modern day desired way of living and hence has been subjected to different constraints. While i do agree that prohibition is not a solution and would breed illegal practices, Governments of the day are not equipped to drive a message of right use to all sections as there is no one size fits all. Therefore societies will keep experimenting and evolving over a period, suffering such implicit idiocy.

Regards
Subramanyam Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01896681476732984625noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-604722717169210145.post-1249267113371581202015-08-05T15:56:41.737+05:302015-08-05T15:56:41.737+05:30Nicely put. While the former is equitable, the latter has always proved a winner as a more practical and workable economic system over the know history. Inequities arising in a social or political system can not be and should not be aided under the garb of political governance aimed at maintaining or uplifting social strata. Fair opportunity and freedom of trade have been the hall mark of developed and stable economies. Good physical health is achieved neither by dieting nor by overeating and the balance is what every physical or economic unit must discover. Unfortunate that such discovery is hampered owing to constraints of politics and half baked idealistic thoughts.

SubramanyamAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01896681476732984625noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-604722717169210145.post-38364108189307414042015-07-03T14:24:50.596+05:302015-07-03T14:24:50.596+05:30Dear Ashish

And when we begin dominating the planet we are almost wary and apologetic about it. But having said that India is like 35 countries put together and the companies that do well here are probably the shining lights on this planet and if they do stop the temptation to commodotise themselves and focus on brands and values they would do themselves and India a favour. In every area of our lives, we are conditioned, even encouraged, to take the shortcut, no matter how illegal it might be. We carry that conditioning into the workplace and are almost offended if someone calls us out for being boorish, or worse. I am a compulsive stopper-for-the-red-traffic-light, no matter what hour of day or night. This morning, I stopped at a red signal on Mumbai's Gokhale Road at about 7:10 a.m. First, the bloke honked incessantly trying to get me to move. When it became clear that I wouldn't budge until the signal turned, he reversed, overtook me, berating me for my stupidity as he ran the light.
I regret to say that this is nearly genetic for most of us. Even people who have led well-behaved, disciplined lives abroad for many years, come back and revert to type without missing a step.
Short version (call me a pessimist): The Indian MNC will remain as commonplace and as real as a sighting of the Yeti for at least another generation.paritoshzerohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12687791835753344062noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-604722717169210145.post-32547120302972604662015-06-10T16:29:32.127+05:302015-06-10T16:29:32.127+05:30The landed class and the bourgeois may have been r...The landed class and the bourgeois may have been responsible for the labour backlash in the first place. But the state has remained in its grip very much like West Bengal. In fact West Bengal saw industry moving out. Most parts of the country saw this labour back lash and strong trade unionism in the 70s and 80s. Hence there was hardly any growth during that period. But growth has since happened in those pockets where the balance has been restored from one extreme to the other. Kerala and WB continue to be trapped in the 70s and 80s and hence the locals are moving out and those left behind do not have too many job opportunities as none were allowed. Reminds me of the Indian version of the Aesop Fables -

http://www.quora.com/How-accurately-does-this-Indian-version-of-Ant-and-the-Grasshopper-Story-depict-the-situation-in-India

Sanjeev SinghalAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04223154803125008930noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-604722717169210145.post-91405130412261225292015-06-08T10:37:10.079+05:302015-06-08T10:37:10.079+05:30Really worth emulating they are, true role models ...Really worth emulating they are, true role models :DAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04497731703861473256noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-604722717169210145.post-28221125395602928342015-06-03T18:17:34.562+05:302015-06-03T18:17:34.562+05:30While the Center invested in Bangalore, from the 1...While the Center invested in Bangalore, from the 1950s onwards, through HAL, HMT, BEML, ITI, BEL and premier research like LRDE, ADE and NAL, why did they not do the same thing for Trivandrum or Kochi. The CIAL bit, I would think is a system situation wherein some of these cab drivers need to await their turn to get themselves a passenger. Be it a long distance booking or a local booking once they get their turn their next chance will be at the end of the line. They shift between the two terminals by turn and hence any trip allotted is taken as the next trip is not sure. I understand the predicament of the traveler who is not very sure of the route to his destination....but being a prepaid service, the onus is on the driver taking the shortest possible route to the destination as he gets paid that much and not a penny more. It is therefore possible that there is an outside chance of one getting stuck with a driver who is not very conversant with the route to uncommon destinations.
Re investment in Kerala.....Union Activism over the past many decades has been the primary cause. Some of the political bigwigs in the State today are products of Labour Union Politics. They messed up so bad that it has become a major curse for entrepreneurs from the state. Even though it is no longer as prevalent, a look at the number of bandhs, hartals etc in Kerala should give you some idea on the economic viability of sustained commercial activity in the State.
I have been here in Kerala for near about 30 years now. My children grew up here. The School they went to initially, one of the top private schools here , lost its charm when trade unions hit the school as teaching and non teaching staff started agitations. As the President of the PTA then, I did have a tough time trying to talk sense with the teachers, the management and the labour leaders. The matter resolved in about 1 year, but I took my kids out and put them into another school.
The rot is still persisting , however I somehow am of the opinion that GenNext will make a big difference in the social fabric of Gods Own Country.... Organizations are living... and they are made of people. The purpose with which the organizations came to exist, and the values with which it is formed (usually a reflection of founders personality) dictates the organizational decision making and behaviour. This is subconsciously driven. Have you seen employees join a company, and their behaviour slowly changes to match that of the company. Have you noticed how we say, this person is not used to Corporate "Culture". Which means that person is not exposed or equipped to make meaning out of nuances of behavior in the corporate world. To answer your inquiry, does decision making and human behavior in the context of a business ecosystem have an implication on performance...the answer is obvious.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11374987838293336940noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-604722717169210145.post-11134309633841965242014-10-12T08:33:02.526+05:302014-10-12T08:33:02.526+05:30Hi Ramesh:
